The Biggin Hill Historic Aircraft Centre is located within RNZAF Base Ohakea and there is public access by prior arrangement only.

New security requirements at Ohakea means there are restrictions on how we can request visits by public groups. Visit requests to us can be for Biggin Hill visits ONLY and not elsewhere on Base.

Multiple vehicle visits for larger groups (eg. car clubs) can now be supported using our new public entrance. This entrance is opened especially for pre arranged group visits and is closed at all other times. The public entrance use does not require processing through the Duty Centre but visits still have to be arranged well in advance to allow coordination with Duty Centre staff.

Visits by BUS are also welcome for larger groups.

Please note that although on-line mapping programs and some GPS units still show the Ohakea Branch of the Air Force Museum being located on Base (with public access/cafe etc), this facility closed many years ago. The Air Force Museum of New Zealand is located in Christchurch and its website link is www.airforcemuseum.co.nz

Important Note: General requests for any broader visits to RNZAF Base Ohakea (ie. when you wish to visit other locations as well as/instead of Biggin Hill) should be directed to:

Base Adjutant, RNZAF Base Ohakea, Private Bag, Palmerston North

OHAKEA WAR MEMORIAL AVIATION CENTRE

This is located behind RNZAF Ohakea and is open to the public between 10am and 2pm daily. Its is run by volunteers and entry is by donation. It contains a range of displays on RNZAF and Ohakea history and is well worth a visit – especially if you are already visiting Biggin Hill. Contact details for the Museum can be found below and on your navigation program enter the location as 355 Speedy Road (corner Tangimoana and Speedy Rds). The location is on roads directly connecting to SH1 so it is not out of the way if you are travelling north or south.
